Ugh! The Horrific Joys of Homeownership!

I'm sure anyone who owns a home feels my pain. The title for this entry alone is enough to make all homeowners reflect on an incident or two in their past and groan. While I truly enjoy being a homeowner, this emergency fix has Chris and I stressed out and frustrated!

It all started when we noticed the window in our back room (addition/'Florida Room') leaked when it rained. That leak suddenly got much worse, then our electricity to that room only went out. We discovered the larger issue when the electrician basically put his hand through the wall just trying to fix an outlet. The drywall and the insulation inside were wet! We needed a roof overhaul and fast.

We began rehab-ing the roof. It rained before the weekend came for us to complete the roof overhaul and the tarp we securely place over the roof didn't work. We had major water damage to the inside of the room, which is OK w/ me because we needed to replace that flooring anyway.
Friday rolls around and Chris & I are able to recruit my dad to help us roof (he's awesome). He's pretty much the go-to guy for fixes and is always willing to give of his time to help.

Thankfully, Dad was able to help us get a lot of work done. Chris & I have never roofed before and had no idea what we were doing. Luckily, some strangers came to our rescue. It's amazing how God places people in our lives. An acquaintance that I play co-ed softball with this season happened to mention that he & his dad have completed many roofs and would be happy to help! Matt barely knows Chris & I and his dad has never met either of us, but they took 2-3 hours out of their Saturday afternoon to help Chris & I put the roofing and flashing up to deter any future water pooling.

Our job isn't finished. We now have to rehab the inside of the room: new drywall on the walls & ceiling, new insulation, new floor & new electrical wiring. But we already have a friend who works in construction/contracting willing to help us with the drywall this weekend. Chris & I feel very blessed that we have those in our lives willing to help us out of a jam. It's the little things that wow us and that we seem to appreciate the most.
