The Latest Local H1N1 Update

The Swine Flue scare seems to be subsiding a bit, which is promising. Since my last H1N1 post, there have been a few additional confirmed cases in Ohio and Franklin County alone.

Ohio State University now has 7 confirmed cases. Though that may seem like a lot, let's remember that Ohio State is one of the largest Universities in the country. There are 7 confirmed cases out of the 57,000 students who attend there. Five of the 7 have recovered fully and have resumed their normal, daily college lives. The 2 newest are still being isolated and undergoing treatment. They are expected to make a full recovery.

The Associated Press reported Thursday that the state's total confirmed cases is currently at 23.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) - Officials in western Ohio say two new
cases of swine flu associated with a middle school have been
confirmed, bringing the number of confirmed cases linked to the
school to three.
Clark County Combined Health District spokeswoman Anita Bales
said Thursday that the new cases include those of a student and a
staff member at Northridge Middle School in Springfield. Both are
recovering at home.
The earlier case was that of a 15-year-old student who was
hospitalized, but is now recovering at home.
The total number of confirmed cases in Ohio is 23.
In mid-May, NBC 4 reported on what the H1N1 outbreak is costing Ohio. Exact numbers are expected to be out in early June, but at the time of NBC 4's report, The Ohio Department of Health said it was spending $44,000 each day while the Franklin County Health Department reported spending $37,000 in almost two weeks. Those numbers did not include overtime, equipment or supply costs. Here's a link to that full report. http://www.nbc4i.com/cmh/news/local/article/Health_officials_beging_Tallying_Costs_of_Fighting_H1N1_Virus/15633/

The grass is always greener...

After a lot of hard work, a lot of watering, about $100 (seed, seed blankets & a sprinkler) and despite our grass seed thief

we have grass growing! Yay!

I never thought I'd be so happy to have a front lawn. It's been Chris' baby for the past few weeks. Maybe we can make it last ;-)

Snapped a photo of this cutie who lives under our front porch. Sometimes, he comes out to play.

Lawn Full of Weeds Gets Destroyed

I hate trying to grow grass. But what I hate even more is not having grass. The front yard grew weeds...so many lush, green weeds that from a distance you would have thought it was grass. Enter... the tiller.
